The Rotary Club of Burnley Pendleside have been doing annual walks around the Barley area for many years. After Rotarian (and keen walker) Grahame Trudgill noticed that the walk hadn't happened for a few years, he decided to bring the event back, but he wanted to come up with something a little different.

Inspired by the Lancashire based LUMPS walk (AKA 20 miles 20 pubs) Grahame approached the LUMPS organisers about sharing their concept, and Pendle Pub Walk was born.

Originally known as "10 miles 10 pubs", PPW 2009 was attended by around 40 sponsored walkers who raised over £1500 for the Rotary charity pot. This was split between Medecins San Frontier, North West Air Ambulance and Pendleside Hospice.

Rather than the intended 10 miles, PPW 2009 was actually 13 miles long. But despite the length and unusually heavy August rain-showers, it was clear that all the walkers had a great time, and this event was something that needed to grow and be repeated annually.
