Beer For PPW Is A Spellbinder

01 Jun 2011

A Padiham man has won the competition to name a beer being especially produced for PPW 2011 by coming up with a Spellbinder of a name

PPW organisers have announced that the competition to name the beer produced by event sponsor Moorhouse’s brewery, has been won by Norman Cope, after he came up with the name "Spellbinder".

Norman (Pictured) came up with the name after entering the competition on the Pendle Pub Walk website. As a prize for his efforts, Norman has won a gallon of Moorhouse’s beer and four tickets for a full hospitality tour around the new £4.2 million Accrington Road brewery facility in Burnley.

Pendle Pub Walk organisers had passed on all the name suggestions to Moorhouses and the winning name was chosen by David Grant, the Managing Director of the brewery. The newly named Spellbinder beer will feature in all but one of the pubs on the PPW 2011 route.

David Grant, the Managing Director of Moorhouses Brewery said: "Spellbinder is a terrific name, as we’ve often used the theme of Pendle Witches when we’ve named our beers. I hope that many of the hundreds of walkers taking part in this year’s Pendle Pub Walk will have the opportunity to sample the beer, whilst they’re raising money for Pendleside Hospice."

PPW Grahame, one of the organisers of the event, said: "I’m sure Spellbinder will prove to be a popular tipple for many of the walkers on June 18th. We’re really grateful to Moorhouses for all their support, as Spellbinder is exclusive to PPW 2011 and will not be available anywhere else! They’ve also given us a barrel of the beer free of charge - we’ve sold it on to the Lamb Working Men’s Club in Barrowford, which is one of the designated stop offs on the walk, and they have kindly agreed to ensure that all monies raised will go to Pendleside Hospice."
