Cupid's Arrow Hits Pendle Pub Walkers

18 May 2011

PPW organisers have revealed that two of the 2010 event walkers - who had never met before the walk - are now engaged to be married

Stephen Willoughby from Padiham, met Melanie Lord who hails from Accrington as they both walked the ten mile route of the popular annual event. Although the couple hadn’t previously met, they got chatting as they walked the route - and perhaps inspired by the wonderful Pendleside scenery, romance blossomed.

The couple have been together ever since and announced their engagement in March this year. They intend to marry on 8th June 2013, which is as close as possible to the 3rd anniversary of their meeting. Pub Walk organisers are promising to schedule the 2013 event on a weekend that doesn’t clash with the happy couple’s nuptials

Stephen commented: "You aren’t really expecting to pull when you don your hiking boots, but Melanie and I hit it off from the start. Pendle Pub Walk holds wonderful memories for us - so I’m really looking forward to doing it again this year."

PPW Grahame, one of the organisers of the walk, said: "The walk is a wonderful event and it’s very social. People of all ages and all walks of life seem to mix and get on well.

"Clearly, last year some people were getting on very, very well indeed! I should add, we guarantee that attendees will enjoy the day, but we can’t promise romance for everybody sadly," he joked! "We’re delighted for Stephen and Melanie though - it was an unintended happy consequence of PPW 2010."
