Thank You Awesome People

20 Aug 2014

PPW 2014 has been awesome - and awesome is the only word for all you awesome people that got involved - a message from PPW Grahame & PPW Paul

It's been 2 months since PPW 2014, and before we try to list all the awesome people that made this event so great this year, we are happy to announce that walkers have raised over £40,000 for Pendleside Hospice so far. A record-smashing and humbling amount, during tough economic times. Thank you to all those walkers that have sent in their fund-raising efforts.

But we still have a long way to go to reach the amount pledged on the day of over £50,000. Any walkers that have not got their sponsorship to Pendleside Hospice yet, need to ASAP, as the presentation evening is only a few weeks away - when we present the over-sized cheque to The Hospice, and award the best (highest individual amount) fund-raiser with the prize tankard. So can every team leader reading this please make sure everyone in their team got this sorted.

Speaking of teams, mega thank you to Team Grumpy, that raised over £2,000...

Family and friends of Chris Crowther named themselves ‘Team Grumpy’ to take part in the Rotary Club of Burnley Pendleside’s Pendle Pub Walk in June and have raised together the amazing sum of £2,061.

Chris Crowther who has lived in Higham with his family for 43 years is receiving help and support along with his wife Carol from Pendleside Hospice and by way of a thank you to Pendleside his family and friends decided to fundraise for the local charity.

Chris’s daughter Claire who took part in the walk said “we fondly and jokingly call my dad Grandad Grumpy so when we decided to walk as a group we thought up the name ‘Team Grumpy’. We really enjoyed the 13 mile walk and visiting the many pubs on the route too!”

There's so many people to thank. So lets start with God. The weather was perfect - overcast but dry with many sunny intervals. Warm, but not too warm for walking - perfect.

The pubs. The pubs were all awesome, as they always are, but this year was really special. The outdoor bars kept everything running smoothly, and all the food was amazing. THANK YOU.

The Rotary Guys (and their wives) for keeping everything running smoothly too. For keeping everything together, and most importantly... for doing all those little jobs nobody wants. THANK YOU.

The Hospice, and their volunteers. The Hospice did all the admin this year, and I think we can all agree that it worked fantastically and flawlessly. And many thanks to the volunteers that helped with processing walkers on the day. THANK YOU.

The photographers. Not only did we have photographers attend - THANK YOU - but many walkers have been sharing photos with us this year. THANK YOU.)

Mick, from Worsthorne Brewing Company, for providing the awesome beer. It was yum - THANK YOU.

And of course, the walkers. Our amazing Pendle Pub Walkers. THANK YOU for making this event better each year. 850 walkers attended on the day, and we think the twin routes idea worked very well. I never had to queue for a drink or to climb over a style. So there's lots of ideas being thrown around for PPW 2015 based around that.

PPW 2015? Yep! Registration is open already. If you would like to get registered, and be collecting sponsorship for Pendleside Hospice all the way up until next summer... well... somebody has to win the 2015 tankard for best fund-raiser.

THANK YOU all so much, and we'll look forward to seeing you next year.
