Leading up to PPW 2013

It was announced there would be two routes. The traditional 12 mile route, and a shortcut taking the walk down to 8 miles. Most walkers did the full route on the day.

Worsthorne Brewing Company provided the PPW beer, and the competition to name the light & hoppy golden bitter was won by Michael Leape (of Fence), with the alliterate name "Hospice Hooch".

For the sake of the pubs, PPW 2013 was going to be limited to 500 walkers. But those place filled up too quickly, and the limit was revised to 600 walkers.

During PPW 2013

PPW 2013 was just marvelous! After the heavy rain during PPW 2012, 600 Pendle Pub Walkers were treated to a day of wall-to-wall sunshine, and I good time was had by all.

The pubs were out-standing. Bacon-butties, BBQs, a hog-roast, pie & pies, sandwiches, chilli & garlic bread, and mixed Indian starters at The Bombay Lounge - with all of the pubs serving Hospice Hooch.

After PPW 2013

The PPW 2013 tankard - for raising the most sponsorship - was won by Mick & Dierdie Woodworth, of Clayton-le-Moors, who raised an staggering £815.

By autumn, there was over £17,000 raised for Pendleside Hospice via walker's sponsorship.

Additionally - by keeping admin costs to a minimum - there was another £4,500 left over from registration fees which went to Rotary charity. In 2013 this included...

Work in the community: Angel House (women's rufuge) - Burnley Food Bank - Derian House (children's hospice) - Pendle Hippodrome - Speakeasy - Sycamore United Junior Football Club

Further afield: British Heart Foundation - Médecins Sans Frontières - Shelterbox (for disaster relief in Haiti)
